India is a global tiger conservation powerhouse, hosting over 80% of the world's wild tigers. As of 2024, the country boasts 57 tiger reserves spanning 82,836.44 sq km, protecting these magnificent creatures across diverse habitats.

The Project Tiger initiative, launched in 1973, has been instrumental in this conservation success. With 3,682 wild tigers recorded in 2022, India leads global efforts in tiger preservation. Madhya Pradesh tops the list with the most tigers (785), followed by Karnataka and Uttarakhand. From the sprawling Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve to the newly established Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve, these protected areas are crucial sanctuaries ensuring the survival of this endangered species.
